Speakers at a workshop, styled “Local Level Stakeholders Consultation on Inclusive, Smooth and Sustainable LDC Graduation”, yesterday called for reaping the full potential of local agriculture, tourism and geographic location to will promote economic growth in Sylhet.

“Bangladesh has successfully faced various global challenges in the past and therefore, we can maintain the momentum of development even after ending up as a least developed country (LDC),” said Sharifa Khan. , secretary of the Economic Relations Division (ERD).

The event was organized by ERD in collaboration with Sylhet district administration, and Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

“The LDC graduation is a matter of pride for the country,” he added.

Md Mozibor Rahman, deputy commissioner of Sylhet, said that building awareness about LDC graduation in the country at the grassroots level will help make the development process more inclusive and sustainable.

Tahmin Ahmed, president of the Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry, emphasized the need to train and improve the skills of the local population to prepare the country for LDC graduation.

Farid Aziz, additional secretary of ERD and project director of the Support to Sustainable Graduation Project (SSGP), emphasized on making the local representatives of the private sector, especially the industries that have exported, feel aware about the opportunities created by LDC graduation.

Md Anwar Hossain, component manager of SSGP, Ferdaus Ara Begum, chief executive officer of BUILD, Alhaj Ashfaque Ahmed, chairman of Sylhet sadar upazila, Fahim Ahmed Chowdhury, managing director of Baraka Power Ltd, and Subrata Das¸ associate professor in the department of architecture. of Shahjalal Science and Technology University, also addressed the workshop.
