Working with local partners to drive innovation

pair, Oct. 17, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Huawei is hosting the European Innovation Day 2022 today at pair, under the theme ‘Open Innovation for a Sustainable Europe’. The event brings together innovators from around the world working to build a “Digital Europe” and explore how digital technology can be used to protect the environment.

The agenda started with a keynote from MEP Ardiana Maldonado, who spoke on “Innovation as Our Best Tool for Future Global Challenges, where she emphasized how Europe digital innovation is urgently needed to meet future challenges. He also called for the creation of a truly open ecosystem where businesses, startups, academia and policy makers can work together to ensure that Europe continued to lead the charge for years to come.

GaĆ«l Blondelle, VP of Ecosystem development at the Eclipse Foundation, one of the largest open-source communities in the EU, also gave a presentation highlighting open-source solutions to innovation challenges. Europe facing now, and Dario RossiDirector of A14NET Lab & DataCom Lab at Huawei’s Paris Research Center talks about how Huawei contributes to science and innovation in France and Europe.

An open ecosystem powered by digital technologies can accelerate in Europe growth

Rainer Terlutter, VP of Industry Solutions for Empolis Information Management, spoke at the event on why innovation in digital technologies is so important to Europewhich says, “Smart products and services based on artificial intelligence and smart knowledge are the engine of digitization.”

David Chquiry, CEO and Founder of Green Tech Innovations also added that, “By working together, we can use edge computing and other new technologies to create green design solutions.”

A particularly compelling feature of Innovation Day 2022 will be startups and future leaders sharing their own successful stories. For example, Jake Phillips, Director of Ecosystem Development at an internationally recognized start-up community Dogpatch Labs, introduced their company’s ecosystem and highlighted the innovation and job growth potential it can bring. He shares how 2021 will be an important year for investing in unicorns Europe, that start-ups have entered the hyper-growth phase. He also touched on their work in pushing positive policy initiatives that allow start-ups to unleash their potential.

Atul Shrivijay Athavale, Head of Cloud Ecosystem at Huawei Cloud WEU, then announced the official launch of the Huawei Cloud Startup Program and Huawei Cloud Developer Competition at Europeas part of It’s Huawei Cloud commitment to work with partners to build a new startup and developer ecosystem.

A green and sustainable Europe closely linked to digital technology

Three other speakers included the CTO of the Porini Foundation Toni Caradonnathe Head of the Center for Conservation Action in Protected and Conserved Areas James Hardcastle, and Rainforest Connection CEO, Bouhan Yassinwho collectively called for building a greener and more environmentally friendly Europe with new digital technologies.

Huawei continues its contribution to Europe

The participants were then treated to a presentation by Dr Basalisco, Director of Copenhagen Economics, who shared key findings within a study published on the 17th of October. The study shows Huawei’s economic contribution to Europe in 2021, which is important in added value, supported by jobs and tax revenues in Europe. Huawei also greatly contributes to research and innovation, talent development, sustainable development, and social and digital inclusion in Europe.

In his closing remarks for Innovation Day 2022, Huawei’s VP of Corporate Communications, Karl Song shared some real-life examples of how Huawei has contributed to digital, smart, and green development in both of Europe and worldwide, said, “We are always committed to the digital transformation of French and European SMEs and creating a more digital Europe.”
