Are Douglas firs better for your property than Western red cedar or big leaf maple? Do you need more alders on your land?
Schaff will talk about the typical conditions, benefits and risks of living in Clallam County’s forested environment.
He will discuss the joys and pains of evaluating your own forest including assessing tree and forest health, and common diseases and pests.
He will also talk about the regulatory environment – what landowners need to do to maintain their forests as well as management practices that can be applied to your forest.
“Landowners can become familiar with the most suitable tree species for the foothill area, learn about common problems and potential solutions, learn about potential management methods to maintain or improve forest health,” Schaff said, “and learn about the forest practice regulations that must be followed.
