SINGAPORE, October 17, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ — Linking the EPEA material and product database to the Madaster Platform will facilitate the calculation and reporting of CO2 emissions and degree of circularity in real estate. This makes it easier to evaluate the feasibility of short and long term goals. It will also simplify compliance with future legal rules and regulations.

Circular construction
Slowing and eventually reversing the rise in CO2 levels in the atmosphere is a global challenge. The Paris Agreement, APAC Goal 13: Climate action and the Singapore Green plan 2030 have clear goals. With a share of almost 40% of the total global CO2 emissions, the construction sector can contribute to achieving these targets through the efficient and circular use of natural resources and materials. The registration of materials and products is one of the first steps towards a truly circular economy — driven by validated and reliable data.

EPEA database for materials and products
Working out project-specific CO2 emissions or determining the extent to which a building can be reused requires a lot of complex data. However, the necessary information is not always available to owners, planners and builders. EPEA has therefore created a database of materials and products, especially for Madaster, available to users of the Madaster Platform so that they can make calculations for each of their projects individually. The data set contains information on the origin of materials (secondary resources, non-renewable primary materials, renewable resources) and the waste scenario (reuse, recycling, incineration, landfill). At the same time, it provides information from which to obtain the carbon footprint of the entire life cycle. All data is based on reliable sources and professional processing by EPEA.

As the Environmental Protection Encouragement Agency (EPEA), we have been working with complex environmental data for more than 30 years. To estimate environmental impacts at the building level and to prepare well, generic data that can be easily managed by the user is an important step towards widespread application.’
– Hein van Tuijl, Managing Director of EPEA BV – Part of Drees & Sommer

The data set currently includes 187 materials and/or products, making it the most comprehensive data set available at this level of diversity and detail. The scope of the data set continues to grow and can be expanded at the request of Madaster Platform users. This means that architectural companies no longer need to store all the information and parameters of their models and can calculate assessments without much additional effort thanks to the intelligent link to the EPEA database.

‘Based on EPEA’s Cradle to Cradle Certified ™ material and product database, we can provide a better understanding of circularity for Madaster Platform users worldwide. Besides higher quality passport materials, it also provides a clearer outline of CO2 emissions and circular value for real estate. Developers, investors and owners and managers of real estate and infrastructure can thus realize circular ambitions in a timely and highly focused manner.’
– Pablo van den Bosch, Board Member Master

Storage of materials
Madaster registers the buildings and the materials inside them, similar to the registration of land parcellation and ownership in a land registry. In this way, the materials are tracked and remain available indefinitely. Madaster allows anyone to create a web-based material passport for any building. Such material passports contain a lot of information about the quality, origin and location of the materials and provide insight into the degree of circularity and the salvage value of a building.

‘With expert consultants, in-house engineering/project management capabilities around the world, and a proprietary digital toolbox, we are perfectly positioned to support our regional clients in this transition and provide a holistic solution. while overseeing all stages of planning and execution. This combination of services and capabilities makes the transition seamless for clients looking to improve energy efficiency, analyze their current portfolio, comply with new regulations, and obtain green certifications. ‘
